The founder

Why I’m telling this yellow story

Viktor Riško

Founder of Triumph Gallery · Initiator of The Yellow Project

At the Tomas Bata Foundation, I came to believe that one person’s story can change what someone else sees as possible. I began searching for overlooked stories with roots in the place I call home. That search led me to John D. Hertz.

He emigrated as a child from Sklabiňa, a small village in what is now Slovakia. His legacy reaches from yellow taxis to support for new generations of scientists. I wanted people at home to know his name. The more I learned, the more I wanted his story to travel.

Where we begin shapes our opportunities. It should never decide whose dreams deserve to be taken seriously.

Today, an exhibition in Sklabiňa brings his story to new visitors. The book is our next step. My wider ambition is to share his story across borders and generations, through exhibitions, education and, one day, a movie.

A business, an idea, a helping hand—there are many ways to contribute. My hope is that, wherever this story travels, it helps someone ask:

What could I begin?
